Letter from the President

IAMCP-US Community –

Are you ready for Inspire? Nine short days from now, we’re hosting the greatest party of all – the Second Annual Speakeasy! Make sure to come by the IAMCP booth at the Welcome Reception or follow us on Twitter to find out the location! You don’t want to miss this!

A huge thank you to our Platinum Sponsor, Armor, for their partnership! Please visit them at the Speakeasy and at the Executive Roundtables throughout the week!

I’m so excited about our charity this year as we launch our IAMCP/VFI STEM Scholarship Fund! Please consider buying a raffle ticket (or 10) to help us beat our fundraising goals! There are some pretty fantastic prizes you can win – and you’ll be supporting a great cause!

Speaking of VFI – if you’re not already a member, I would encourage you to strongly consider it. There are several key issues right now that have the potential to impact all of us as technology professionals. Make sure you visit VFI at the Community Hub, at the Executive Roundtable with Brad Smith, and at their sessions throughout the week to learn more!

Congratulations to our IAMCP-WIT team who has recently announced a formal partnership with Microsoft’s Women in Partner! In case you missed the press release, here’s Microsoft’s official statement regarding the partnership:

If you need some help planning out your week – make sure to check out several great resources from IAMCP members:

  • Check out this LinkedIn post here from David Gersten - our US board secretary and Western Region chair. David gives some great practical advice for making the most of your time in DC. Thanks, David, for this great resource!
  • And a great rundown of Inspire (included below) from an IAMCP perspective from our Global Inspire lead and Eastern Region chair, Deb Pfundstein. Thanks, Deb!

Congratulations to Lesly Kenney from Crayon, who won our free pass to Inspire 2017! Lesly recently signed up as a new member and was automatically entered into our drawing! Make sure to introduce yourself to Lesly at the Speakeasy and welcome her to the Community!

Thank you all for a fantastic year! I can’t wait to see you in DC!

Countdown to Inspire!

Dear IAMCP Colleagues,

The countdown is on to Inspire, Microsoft’s newly named partner conference. As someone who has attended all but one of Microsoft’s past worldwide partner conferences, I am honored to be the IAMCP International Inspire Chairperson this year.

My professional career has always revolved around the partner community—first as a Microsoft employee focused on the channel and then, since 2010, working directly in a partner company. In fact, of all of my professional achievements, the one I am most proud of is having been named a Prometheus award winner in 2009 (ironically, the one year I was unable to attend WPC).

It has been a delight to be part of the Inspire planning team. The team has been hard at work since February and I cannot wait to see partners enjoying the outcomes. An event like Inspire does not happen without a big team of dedicated and enthusiastic supporters. I want to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at CRG and Microsoft who have been helping us grow our presence at Inspire and who have been quick to respond to all our asks with good cheer.

While we will be true to tradition and offer favorites, such as the exclusive executive roundtables, there are some exciting new additions to the Inspire IAMCP experience this year, including a new look and feel for our booth. For example, there will be a welcome reception sponsored by Armor, Crayon and HPE Aruba, where IAMCP will host an international meeting open to all Inspire attendees. In addition, there will be regional breakout meetings on Monday for US & LATAM and Tuesday for India, EMEA, Australia, APAC and Canada. Visit the IAMCP booth for the schedule.

Yet another exciting new addition this year is the “Booth Takeover” sponsorship, where sponsoring partners will have an opportunity to talk in depth about their businesses. A big “thank you!” goes out to the takeover sponsors confirmed for this year: Crayon, Dynasource, EnvisionIT and Shinydocs.

Keep your eyes peeled for a few other surprises we have planned and do not forget to watch social media to find out the scoop on the Sunday night Speakeasy party. The party is sponsored by the US and open to the entire IAMCP community. In addition to the sponsors mentioned previously, we proudly recognize our Speakeasy sponsors:

With all the support of our partner sponsors, IAMCP’s presence at this year’s conference is sure to inspire! #IAMCPInspire

Warmest Regards,

Debra Pfundstein

Announcing: Microsoft & Women in Partner and IAMCP WIT

Microsoft & Women in Partner and IAMCP WIT are pleased to announce their recent partnership! Both communities are focused on inspiring female leaders in the Microsoft ecosystem. Find out more at the IAMCP WIT booth in the Community Hub at Inspire.

About Microsoft & Women in Partner: Microsoft & Women in Partner was founded in the spring of 2016 with a desire to connect and inspire female leaders in both Microsoft and the partner community. In the last year, it has grown to over 500 members across the ecosystem, predominantly in the United States. Its mission is to connect, empower, and inspire female leaders in partner and Microsoft organizations.

The action at Inspire starts on Sunday, July 9th and continues through the week! Check here for the combined listing of all IAMCP and IAMCP WIT events. Plan ahead and you won’t be disappointed!

CHICAGO - John Nicolau, Chapter President

The Chicago IAMCP/WIT June chapter meeting was held on June 28th at the Microsoft Offices in Downers Grove. Mike Depoian, Partner/VP Business Development with BlueGranite Inc., spoke with us on Getting the Most Out of Power BI. We learned how BlueGranite uses Power BI as one of four pillars when helping clients in their journey of digital transformation … and how we can take advantage of these resources by partnering with this longtime IAMCP member.

We will be taking the summer off, so our next IAMCP/WIT chapter meeting will be in September, featuring Microsoft General Manager, Central Region SMB, Brent Combest. Details to follow.

CLEVELAND - Ray Paganini, Chapter President

The Cleveland chapter held a partner-to-partner roundtable event on June 26th. The focus of the roundtable was to discuss with a group of peers, the requirements, challenges and rewards of being a Microsoft partner in 2017. Topics of discussion included:

  • Maintaining a relationship with local MS resources
  • Understanding new MS programs such as CSP and FastTrack and how they impact your business
  • Keeping up with MS training certifications
  • Transitioning your business to cloud service offerings

DALLAS/FORT WORTH - Rudy Rodriguez, Chapter President

IAMCP DFW’s June 22 meeting topic was Connections That Transform Your Business. Lunch was served and, with IAMCP panelists, we learned how to maximize our attendance and get the most value out of attending Microsoft Inspire while connecting with partners, Microsoft employees and industry experts. We discussed:

  • Hot Topics
  • Networking events
  • Awards ceremonies
  • Women in Technology
  • Show floor events
  • Using Connect
  • First-time attendees
  • IAMCP Executive Roundtables - featuring Brad Smith, Chris Weber and more
  • Survival tips, last minute housing and much more ......

NORCAL - Dan Callahan, Chapter President

The IAMCP NorCal chapter recently lined up with IAMCP WIT to host the latter’s annual event at Morton’s Steakhouse in San Francisco. It was a beautiful day in the “city by the bay,” but a large crowd was only too happy to head downstairs and listen to an all-star lineup of speakers:

  • Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft Corporate VP of the Worldwide Partner Group
  • Michelle Peterson, Microsoft’s Director of Solution Sales EPG
  • Eugene Chi, Microsoft General Manager West Region, SMB and Distribution

Convergent Computing and Synnex sponsored the event and presented to the audience on their offerings to help partners succeed in the market.

Julie Plonk of Robert Half Technology (also a sponsor) chaired a roundtable discussion and Q&A on Microsoft’s direction in the market, plans for simplifying partners’ experience with Microsoft, and how to engage Microsoft’s sales and account team on opportunities. The audience had a chance to ask many questions and get to know our Microsoft guests before they headed off to an event in Napa Valley. And—of course—partners had a chance to meet and discuss opportunities to work together.

Everyone had a great time. Sharon Chang, our WIT representative, even managed to arrange for a Mimosa toast, as you can see in the picture!

PHILADELPHIA - Kevin S. Miller, Chapter President

IAMCP Philadelphia’s Summer Kickoff meeting was held at a local eatery, Mission BBQ. We had 18 attendees, with our very own Ryan Carillo of Carillo Consulting, speaking. Ryan talked with us about his firm’s consultative approach to working within the Microsoft ecosystem, and how IAMCP partnering has helped grow his business.

SEATTLE - Jeff Shuey, Chapter President

The Seattle chapter recently hosted our annual ‘Hear from Microsoft Executives’ event. We were fortunate to have Microsoft’s CVPs, Gavriella Schuster and Ron Huddleston, speak. Gavriella is the Channel Chief and Ron is responsible for the One Commercial Partner initiatives. They did pre-runs of their upcoming Microsoft Inspire keynotes. Since it was a content in progress, the attendees are under NDA. However, we can tell you that they have some amazing points to cover. Don’t miss their keynotes on Day 1 and on Day 3.

Typically, the Seattle chapter would take August off. There are enough partners ready to get started, though, so we are hosting an August meeting. The details are below. Make sure you register, so we know you are coming! See you in DC. Look for IAMCP members and make sure you follow @IAMCP on Twitter to see more details about the Speakeasy.

Upcoming events:

August 17 – Microsoft Inspire Wrap Up – All IAMCP Seattle members invited to share

September 21 – Microsoft Inspire Deeper Dive – Guest Speaker

TAMPA - Jon Rivers, Chapter President

The Tampa chapter had another amazing meeting in June with a room split between existing members, plus non-members learning more about the IAMCP and how it can benefit their organizations. Our topic was presented by one of the original founders of Tribridge, Mike Herdegen, VP of IT, on How Tribridge Helps Its Team Members Behave Securely. It was a very engaging and interactive session.

Usually, the Tampa chapter takes time off during the Microsoft Inspire conference. This year, those who are not able to attend Inspire are hosting a happy hour and reception at Ducky’s on July 11th. Make sure to register to let us know you’re coming!

Other upcoming events:
August 8th – Topic: Demystifying Data Science and Machine Learning by Buck Woody on the Microsoft Machine Learning and Data Science Team
