May 2018 Newsletter

Hello IAMCP-US Community,

My second public event as the president of the International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners, United States (IAMCP-US), was the Ingram Micro Cloud Summit held in Boca Raton, FL on April 30th thru May 2nd. The IAMCP-US sponsored a very successful event where we were able to meet 1400+ partners in attendance and introduce them to the IAMCP. Representing the IAMCP were Jon Sastre, Erik Frantzen and Michelle Hollis. There was a lot of activity at our booth in the solution center, and we had several Microsoft Partners register as IAMCP members shortly after the event and several others inquired about starting new chapters. The Microsoft Keynotes were delivered by Gavriella Schuster, Corporate Vice President - One Commercial Partner, and Rodney Clark, VP, IoT and Mixed Reality Sales, Microsoft Corporation.

In addition, the IAMCP held a breakout session where we were able to promote the IAMCP  and not only were there over 40 people in attendance, but several key decision makers for Ingram Micro were at our session to learn more about the IAMCP.

I am very proud to announce that membership has increased by over 3.6% from last month, and we are currently at the highest membership totals for the calendar year of 2018. I want to remind everyone that growing the IAMCP membership is our responsibility, so please help promote our success stories on the IAMCP website. In addition, we have announced our new Virtual Chapter, which is designed to support IAMCP members that are not located near a current IAMCP chapter. Furthermore, we have announced the “New Member Growth Challenge,” and an award will be given to the chapter that adds the most members by June 30, 2018. The award will be announced at the Microsoft Inspire Conference in Las Vegas.

We hope you have made your final arrangements for the 2018 Microsoft Inspire Partner Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 15th thru 19th at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center!

I am very excited to host my first Inspire as the IAMCP-US president and I am looking forward to meeting as many IAMCP members and prospective members from around the world as possible.

Each year, the IAMCP plays a greater role assisting Microsoft, our members, and all partners to get the most out of the Microsoft Inspire Conference and this year is no exception. Our theme for this year’s conference is “Make Every Connection Brighter.” This year we have some exciting new additions to the Inspire IAMCP experience, including a new IAMCP@Inspire website We’re also adding a few new items to the mix, including a small Partner Kiosk area available for sponsorship and an opportunity to sponsor our IAMCP/WIT suites during the Corenotes each day.

Additionally, the IAMCP is further amplifying the social media marketing program for sponsors of the Kiosk, the Speakeasy, the Luncheons, IAMCP WIT events and more. This will provide significant co-branding and visibility for the sponsors with the IAMCP. The new IAMCP@Inspire website will also contain landing pages and/or logos for sponsors, with content for the social amplification — up to and during Inspire — pushed to this IAMCP-and-sponsor-co-branded digital “real estate.” Look for social posts — about sponsors, about the event, about members, about presenters, speakers, and more — containing the hashtag #IAMCPInspire!

High visibility sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact the Inspire Sponsorship Team!

The IAMCP will be extremely active at this year’s Inspire Conference and below are some of the activities that we will be hosting:

  • Women in Technology: several sessions, a booth in the community hub, and the always SOLD OUT WIT Charity Luncheon
  • Awards: The IAMCP Prometheus Awards recognizing a Microsoft employee for their dedication to our organization
  • Scholarships:  The Rudy Rodriguez Scholarship Fund
  • Partners: Our strategic alliance partners, including Comcast and Crayon, will be helping us run the IAMCP Community Hub and many of our events
  • Networking:  The very popular 4th Annual Speakeasy Inspire Kick-Off Party on Sunday evening following the Welcome Reception
  • Exclusivity: The invitation-only IAMCP Executive Roundtables
  • Sessions: 20-plus IAMCP members presenting at Inspire sessions
  • Philanthropy: IAMCP members always make up a large percentage of First Time Attendee mentors

Lastly, if you are an IAMCP member or you are considering becoming a member, we need help at Inspire getting the word out at our booth in the community hub, greeting visitors and assisting with the WIT Charity Luncheon, in addition to many other volunteer opportunities available. We have volunteer time slots as short as 1 hour, so please make time in your schedule to talk with Partners about IAMCP. Go to 2018 Inspire volunteer signup: to select the time(s) that work for you.

Please help us make this year’s Inspire Conference the best Partner conference in the world.

In conclusion, I am extremely excited about the progress that we have made in the first four months of my position. We are progressing very well to make the IAMCP the best Microsoft Partner Organization on the planet!

ATLANTA - EJ Harof, Chapter President

Atlanta IAMCP & WIT Chapter Q1 2018 Accomplishments
The Atlanta chapter and its board created, promoted and executed four events for the first quarter of 2018. They have created a quarterly repeating format that includes three types of meetings, all built around networking and collaborating to grow each other’s businesses. All of them include networking time and presentations. One meeting is a lunch meeting promoting the Georgia/Atlanta chapter and what is needed from the chapter to grow business in the industry. The second is a panelist discussion regarding a topic that impacts our businesses with speakers onsite at the Avalon Microsoft office in Alpharetta or other Microsoft Stores broadcasting with remote speakers and attendees. The third is an evening event somewhere fun and intriguing where everyone can interact.

January was launched with an evening event at the new Microsoft Office at the Avalon in Alpharetta North Atlanta — a fantastic event where Microsoft spoke discussing initiatives for 2018 and partner interaction throughout Georgia.

February had two events. The Microsoft Store at Lenox Mall in Atlanta held a social media marketing training session with Microsoft marketing agency partner Cadence Preferred. The second event was hosted by the Microsoft director of ISV OCP program at the Avalon MS office. It went into great detail regarding the new OCP program and the benefits to the partner community. It was followed by an evening event at the Avalon, a tremendous retail, entertainment, business and residential development, and home to the new Microsoft Office.

Finally, on March 23rd, the quarterly format was completed with a requested panel discussion on the upcoming important General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that goes into effect May 25th. Our members voted for this topic. We were able to recruit industry leaders to moderate and serve on the panel. While some were remote, others flew into Atlanta to present in person. Members and non-members were able to come to the Avalon Microsoft Office to watch in person, to the Microsoft Store Atlanta to watch on a screen or through the web on Skype.

In summary, the Atlanta IAMCP & WIT chapter is if off to a great 2018, delivering value to its members and coming up with new and innovative topics. We are looking forward to next quarter with new partners joining the group and continuing with exciting new topics and events.

CHICAGO - John Nicolau, Chapter President

Many thanks to IAMCP member DMC for hosting our April chapter meeting at their offices, presenting on Using Microsoft PowerApps. As always, DMC does a great job and are most gracious hosts. Also, many thanks to IAMCP US president, Jeff Goldstein, for joining us from the east coast. He is about 30% on the way towards his goal of meeting with all 38 US IAMCP chapters by the end of this year. We are grateful that Chicago was an early visit on his tour.

Our May 17 meeting was held at Sikich’s loop offices with a topic of “Navigating the Blockchain Landscape.” Thanks to Ginny Ferguson and Sikich! On May 31, Chicago WIT met at Microsoft's loop MTC, where Pat Bodin presented The Relevance Imperative: Navigating the Future of IT.”

Welcome to Larry Steinert from 4MFG as he joins our Chicago IAMCP board as our new membership chair. He will be transitioning over the next few months, as Rick Rietz from DMC assumes the role of chapter vice president. Many thanks to everyone on our board for volunteering their time to help grow our chapter and add value to our members. Please reach out to any board member with questions and/or ideas you have to improve our chapter.

For future reference, your current Chicago chapter IAMCP board is as follows:

  • President (and Advocacy) - John Nicolau
  • Vice President - Rick Rietz
  • Marketing/Communications - Peggy Martinus
  • Membership - Lawrence Steinert
  • Treasurer - Ginny Ferguson
  • At Large Board Member (past president) - Mike Depoian
  • At-Large Board Member (past president) - Jennifer Didier
  • Microsoft Representative - Jason Hinton

Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-6th) will be speaking at our next meeting on Monday, June 25, 9:00-11:00 am at the Microsoft offices in Downers Grove. Seating will be limited, so RSVP as soon as possible. To learn more about Congressman Roskam, please visit his website at Only current IAMCP/WIT members and/or Microsoft Partners will be permitted to attend, so if you ever needed an incentive to  join the IAMCP, there will not be a better time …. With all that is going on — not only in our country, but across the world these days — we anticipate a very interesting presentation and Q&A with the Congressman, who also serves on the critical House Ways and Means Committee.

PHILADELPHIA - Ryan Carillo, Chapter President

Nine attendees were present at our April Philadelphia chapter meeting, sponsored by CommVault. Steve Deming, a Microsoft senior partner technology specialist, discussed Hybrid Azure. Steve also held an open forum focusing on various Microsoft subjects. Our chapter moderator today was former IAMCP president Kevin S. Miller. Kevin previewed what is new with IAMCP and what is upcoming.

Our May meeting was held at the Microsoft Malvern office. Ian Smith with Syncratec Solutions presented an overview and update of what is current with Microsoft Dynamics 365.  We had a total of 11 attendees.

SOCAL - Eric Klauss, Chapter President

We had great Los Angeles weather for our May meeting, which was packed with current members and guests. Microsoft’s Sherman Crancer helped us think smarter about creating service packages to increase margins and close sales and our meeting sponsor was Great America. We also learned about a Microsoft Philanthropies-supported program called TEALS, which seeks volunteers to teach computer science in high schools. Rebranded as “LAN” (Local Area Networking), we held two lunch networking events in Los Angeles and Orange County. These events, formerly referred to as “meetings between the meetings,” offer our members additional opportunities to connect, network and have a good time over a good meal. They’re fun and hold a lot of value for our members, so we’re going to keep them going!

We saw big numbers at our April meeting, welcoming nearly 80 members and guests. Networking was our meeting topic and the contributions from our panel, in addition to questions asked by members, left everyone with great networking tips. Everything from small group networking best practices and active listening to various ways to organize business cards and follow up was covered. Our informative panel included Justin Slagle, Michelle Hollis and Alan Crooks. Member, Advocacy Chair and President of International Software Systems, Laura Peters, was the meeting sponsor, offering “10 Reasons You Have Outgrown QuickBooks.” Later in the month, we held a new member orientation lunch to welcome our newest members.

SoCal WIT is going strong and we’re proud to support the IAMCP WIT Haiti Initiative. Through this hopeful effort, IAMCP-SoCal will sponsor Laure-Naїveka and assist her with tuition support to complete her studies and gain greater access to technology. Fundraising has begun but we need more supporters to donate to help Laure reach her goal. Click here to help us donate!

Lastly, IAMCP-SoCal was focused on all things golf with an exciting scramble tournament Friday, April 27th. We raised money for Boys & Girls Club of East L.A. and Children’s Action Network. This was our 8th annual golf tournament and we hope to make next year’s tourney even better.

The next chapter meeting is June 7th. We’re getting closer to Inspire and we’re excited!

ST. LOUIS - Marty OBlack, Chapter President

In April, the St. Louis chapter was excited to welcome IAMCP-US president Jeff Goldstein for a special members’ luncheon at the Weber Grill Restaurant. Chapter members enjoyed the opportunity to hear from Jeff on a variety of current IAMCP initiatives and goals. Jeff had a chance to learn more about St. Louis members and to get their feedback on how IAMCP membership provides value to themselves and their companies. Members were "fired-up" by the lively conversations and networking, at the restaurant created by the wonderful people who make Weber kettle grills! Pictured are Jeff Goldstein with Marty OBlack and Jeff with some St. Louis members who attended.

In May, Spencer Cobb, Director of Strategic Sales for Cytellix, gave an excellent presentation to the chapter on Cybersecurity for Small Business. Spencer explained how IAMCP members can easily add cybersecurity support offerings for clients through the Cytellix partner program. Members enjoyed a great lunch at Maggiano’s while networking and discussing security best practices for clients. A special thanks to Cytellix for hosting the St. Louis chapter meeting!

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Frank Valdivieso, Chapter President

We look forward to hearing the results in June.
